HAMPTON, Va. -- On Friday, June 25, Hampton University will celebrate its 8th Annual Day of Caring.
Hamptonians at home and at heart will stand together virtually during the 24-hour event in giving back to the University. This unique opportunity is designed to engage alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends. With emphasis placed on giving—rather than the size of the gift—the University aims to reach 1,868 donors!
“We understand that while we are approaching some sense of normalcy, many members of the Hampton University family are still navigating the challenges brought on by this unprecedented time,” said Brint Martin, Assistant Vice President for Development. “While things are making a turn in the right direction, it is still crucial that the Hampton University community pull together and support our students and our ‘Home by the Sea’ as a united front on this Day of Caring. Many students and their families are still impacted by COVID, and each of us, as Hamptonians, has a responsibility to take part in ensuring that the mission of our beloved alma mater—molding and educating future leaders—continues for years to come.”
In its 7th year, a record breaking 6,994 valued members of the Hampton University community answered the call to action to join the Day of Caring Dream Team, raising a record-breaking $1.5 million.
Last year, the virtual event took on a new name as the University looked to not only stress the necessity of support from all its constituent groups during a time of increased economic uncertainty, but to also virtually engage and build a sense of community amongst alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends during these unprecedented times.
As the University looks to a brighter post-pandemic future, we hope to encourage Hamptonians across the globe to make a financial contribution in any amount during this special giving event.
Making a gift helps Hampton University stay competitive in national rankings, increases the value of every degree, and gives charitable organizations and foundations the confidence to invest in our prestigious University.
From midnight to midnight, gifts of any size go to where the donor specifies. Whether to a particular school, department, scholarship account, or the Annual Fund, every donation in any amount counts.
Donors have several ways to become a part of the Dream Team. Donors can make a donation over the phone, by mail with a donation card, or fill out an online giving form.
To get the Hampton University family in the giving spirit and to offer unique giving opportunities, the Office of Alumni Affairs and the Annual Fund will host a Day of Caring virtual pre-week (June 21 - June 25), themed “5 Reasons to Join the Dream Team.”
“Day of Caring is a special opportunity for those of us who have benefited from and support Hampton University’s mission to show up and show out with Pirate Pride,” said Lapraya Patterson, Annual Fund Manager. “We were all once students in need of grace at one time or another, so let’s make a commitment to the Day of Caring Dream Team and pay it forward.”
